报告摘要:
Seismic signal is traditionally analyzed for studying earthquakes in seismology. However, only 1% of continuous signal records earthquakes, and the rest is usually considered seismic noise. Over the last decade, the analysis of seismic noise has constantly increased in attention to develop new methods and mine the information of noise source. Mass movement at the Earth’s surface generates seismic waves and leaves its footprints on nearby seismometers. Therefore, seismometers can potentially be used to monitor mass movement hazards throughout the landscape, with varying mechanism, magnitude, space, and time. This talk will give an overview of the current development and opportunities for the seismic monitoring of surface processes. I will provide several examples from our recent research about applying seismic methods to study different surface processes such as landslides, floods, and debris flows.
