Prof. Roland Bürgmann is well-known geophysicist whose research focuses on active tectonics, lithospheric and upper mantle rheology. Prof. Bürgmann received his B.Sc (Bachelor of Science) from Universität Tübingen in Germany in 1987, M.Sc (Master of Science) from University of Colorado in USA in 1989, and his PhD from Stanford University in 1993. Prof. Bürgmann has published more than 230 peer-reviewed journal papers and books, including 22 Nature and Science papers. Prof. Bürgmann has also chaired or been being a member of tens of international committees, including AGU Tectonophysics and T Section Executive Committee, PBO Steering Committee, Board of Directors of UNAVCO Inc., USGS NEHRP Proposal Review Panel, NSF Committee on Tectonics Research, WInSAR Transition Committee, SSA Publications Committee, National Earthquake Prediction Evaluation Council (NEPEC), Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) Board of Directors, NASA Earth Science Advisory Committee (ESAC, former ESS). Prof. Bürgmann was elected as AGU fellow in 2013, and also won many prestigious awards.
